Oklahoma or Bust!

I really wanted to document our little road trip out here to Oklahoma. It was exhausting for me and I was so glad when we finally arrived. We left Idaho on a Tuesday and I had the Uhaul all loaded up with the help of my sis Laurel. Drove about 10 hours until we reached just outside of Denver. (Most of the 10 hours was spent driving on a 2 lane highway I might add.) The kids did pretty good that first day though....

We departed from the hotel the second day around 10am. I thought we had put the bulk of the drive behind us the previous day. I figured we'd arrive in Oklahoma around 8pm. So we're driving, driving, driving. Passing semi's, cows, po-dunk towns left and right on our little 2 lane highway. Construction is EVERYWHERE! We finally decide to stop in this tiny town on the border of Colorado for lunch. We're in McDonald's and hearing all the locals talk I thought we were definitely in Oklahoma. They all had that country drawl and were using words like "fixin" and "reckin!" They had me fooled! Good ol country folk......
While the kids were playing at the playplace, I get a call from JD. He asks me if we are in Kansas yet. I'm like, "Kansas? What do you mean Kansas? Do I just go through a small part of it?" He said, "No you will spend a good 4-5 hours in that state." I rushed out to my car to check my mapquest paper I had printed out the night before. It didn't ever take my through Kansas. JD said if I had taken a different route I would have been on freeway basically the entire time. I just broke down and started bawling. I was so sick of driving and thought we were getting close but realized we had at least 7 more hours ahead of us. Yes, 7 more hours on a small highway in the middle of nowhere! JD was able to calm me down and said it was going to be fine. Apparantly when I typed in our location on Mapquest it calculated it differently because I had put our address which was a suburb of Oklahoma City.... dumb, dumb, dumb!! It said it was saving me about 45 minutes but I would have much rather driven on freeway! Oh well, once I had realized the drive ahead was NOT over I was able to press on....
These next two pics are basically what the 20 hour drive looked like the ENTIRE TIME!!!

Looks fun, doesn't it?!!

I was driving a bit faster than I probably should have been especially considering I was also pulling a Uhaul, but I just wanted to get there already! So of course I look behind me and see a cop pulling me over! He ended up just giving me a warning, 6mph over the limit is NOT ticket worthy! Thank you, thank you! So as he was back in his car writing me a warning I look behind me to see Avery with these huge crocodile tears welling up in her eyes. I ask her what's the matter and she says in the most adorable, break your heart voice, "I don't want him to take you to jail!" Oh sweet little thing, she actually does love me! Haha, we sorted that all out and we were back on the road, about 4 hours to go....
The kids started getting restless and had definitely had enough of their car seats. There are only so many Twizzlers and suckers you can chuck back at them!! Brody was screaming and I decided to put on the Wiggles for him. Can I just say, I LOVE the Wiggles! I don't care all you haters out there who say they're gay and you can't stand them, well bite me! They are such life savers and I love all their songs, and they are the ONLY thing that makes my 2 and 3 year old happy! I will defend them til I die ;)

Seriously moments before I put in the Wiggles and this pic was taken, Brody was screaming and in tears. Look at him, pure joy!
So we pulled into Oklahoma City about 1 am.... I was EXHAUSTED and so sick of driving. It was so good to be reunited with JD again. The kids were so excited to see him. I could not have done the drive without my sister with me. Shout out to Laurel for being SO patient and such a big help with the kids! I can't believe we've already been here for a month. I have so many pics to upload and will hopefully get to that soon!

SO with you on the Wiggles Leah. My kids have mostly outgrown them (OK the twins still watch sometimes), but we still break out in a "Fruit Salad, yummy yummy" every once in a while :). We have one that I have NEVER actually seen, but I know ALL the words b/c we used to play it in the car all the time LOL. Glad you got there safely. We miss you here!

I love road trips. Sorry that happened to you. Stupid mapquest! I can sadly say that twice mapquest and the GPS has screwed Becky and i on a couple road trips we have taken together, but all the ones i have taken by myself or with just Tayson have been wonderful and good memories for me.
And if The Wiggles makes your kids happy then GO WIGGLES!!!! Haha. I'm so happy to get back home to AZ this week. I can't freaking wait! From your comment on my blog i guess i'll be seeing you soon then. :)

Oh my gosh, I would have been bawling myself! You are much braver than I am though, because the only place I will drive without Jason is SLC and back, I can't imagine packing up a U-Haul and driving that far! Glad you made it safe and sound though.

So glad you are here and that we can hang out and have fun!!! You are pretty brave to do that by yourself and I would have been in tears too.

I'm pulling my hair out for you! Don't know if I would have been able to make it. Screw mapquest...they screw me over all the time!! They've lead me to a non-existant location before, no joke!

Glad you guys survived the drive. Even more glad that you didn't go to jail. Ha ha! Poor Aves was scared her momma was going to the slammer! You think she'd be used to her mom getting pulled over all the time ;) He seriously pulled you over for going 6 over the speed limit?! Give me a break! He was probably bored, because all he sees on that road is cows!

Thank goodness Laurel was there to help! Glad the Wiggles saved you....they are pretty lame, but whatever works! (I must admit,I do like listening to their sweet accents though.)
